Old Navy Spring Accessory Party!

I had the privilege of being one of a handful of Old Navy Style Council members to be selected to host the first ever Old Navy Spring Accessories Party! This was thanks to Old Navy and Crowdtap (which I have shared with you before - click the link to learn more)!!

The Old Navy Spring Accessories Party Kit Included:
*Party Guide with ideas on how to make my party fabulous!
*5 Old Navy tote bags
*2 Spring Scarves
*1 Pair of spring shades
*1 spring fedora hat
*1 spring saddle bag

When the kit arrived, I had fun trying on the shades, scarves, hat and checking out the purse!!

Party Planning

I purchased decorations including a bright purple tablecloth, yellow plates and matching glasses, bright flower wall art, and a beach scene backdrop I used to take our before and after photos in front of. I also made floral arrangements from flowers in my backyard – including my favorite, lilacs! Smelled so sweet! The menu, games and party details were pretty much left up to each individual member. I made up a list of menu and decoration ideas as well as an order of events sheet for myself so I could remember which activity I wanted to do next, but left room to be flexible because it was a party after all!  I pulled items from my closet that I had previously purchased from Old Navy and made outfits completed with Old Navy scarves, bags, and a fedora. I hung them around the room for inspiration and decoration.

Beach Scene Backdrop for Photos

I had fun planning the party and even created my first Event Invitation page for the party on Facebook.

When:  Saturday, May 14, 2011
Time:    12:30-3 PM
Where:    Megan’s House
Guests:   Miranda, Mindy, Jenny, Melissa

Welcome to the Party!!!
I welcomed each of my guests to my party. I had my Pandora “Roy Orbison” station playing softly in the background. Once everyone arrived, we took before photos. I had told them to wear outfits that would be fun to accessorize!!

I wore my Old Navy purple sundress
with my one of my colorful, floral Old Navy scarves.

Lunch

Then lunch was served.  The table settings were brightly colored and fun. Each friend had a lei if they wanted to wear it or leave for decoration around their plate. The meal included fresh baked twisted rolls, with turkey and/or ham, with a  selection of cheeses. Chips, fruit salad, iced sun tea, sparkling cider and for dessert warm out of the oven brownies with whipped cream drizzled with caramel. Delicious!!!!

The Party

Then we moved into the living room where I thanked everyone for coming and showed them the table full of goodies that Old Navy sent in the kit.  Each of them received a packet of spring flowers as a gift from me to them.

Then we got the party started with a game that I came up with – the best name I could come call it is the OLD NAVY Purse Search! I had each friend grab their purse and then named off each letter of O.L.D. N.A.V.Y. (not endorsed by Old Navy) and they had to find an item that started with that letter. We had some good laughs at what some of the girls found in the bottom of their purses! A few good finds – Mindy found Liplicious lipgloss for the letter “L”, as well as Anacin for the letter “A”. Melissa had a Verizon phone for the letter V, and she also found an Old Navy shopping receipt so the tie went to her. She chose the green saddle bag purse for her door prize, which was fitting for a win of the Purse Search game.

That's Me! :)

The ladies had so much fun that we moved onto the next game I came up with – Name that Flower. I showed a photo of a flower and they had to write down the name of the flower. There were 15 total and Miranda showed off her vast knowledge of flora by winning. She chose the floral spring scarf.

Do you know your flowers?
(I showed each individual flower photo on my tv/computer screen and my guests had 30 seconds give or take, to write down the name of the flower.)

Answers:
1-            Daffodil               6-            Snapdragon                        11-Carnation
2 -           Rose                    7-            Peony                                 12-Chicory

I also told my guests about www.OldNavy.com and took them on a tour of the site. I had my computer hooked up to our television screen so everyone was able to see. I told them to name their favorite accessory and showed them the corresponding category on the website.  Most of the gals said that their favorite accessories in general are rings and necklaces, which the kits didn’t include, but we did have fun looking at the selections online. It would be fun for future party kits, if a necklace or bracelet was included. I also showed them the “Our Favorite Looks” on OldNavy.com where you can shop by outfit completed with accessories – or you can draw inspiration to build your own favorite look.

Here are a few photos and a couple videos (sorry the videos are a bit dark!).

The girls were ready for more door prizes so we played “Name that Accessory.” I read off a definition, and they had to write down the accessory I was referring to. I got the definitions from dictionary.com and Wikipedia.com.

An accessory is “an article or set of articles of dress, as gloves, earrings, or a scarf, that adds completeness, convenience, attractiveness, etc., to one's basic outfit.”

1.  (Answer: Scarf)
A piece of fabric worn around the neck, or near the head or around the waist for warmth, cleanliness, fashion or for religious reasons. They can come in a variety of different colors.

2. ( Answer: Purse, Handbag, etc)
A small bag, pouch, or case for carrying money.

3. (Answer: Fedora)
A hat that is creased lengthwise down the crown and pinched in the front on both sides.[1] The creasing does not define the hat, however. Fedoras can also be creased with teardrop crowns, diamond crowns, center dents, and others, and the positioning of pinches can vary if they are found at all. Early on, fedoras were sold open crown, meaning they were uncreased, with the owner creating his/her own crease manually.

4.  (Answer: Shoe)
A shoe having a heel extending from the back of the shoe to the front of the shank and a tread formed by an extension of the sole. (www.merriam-webster.com)

5. (Answer: Pendant – as in Necklace)
{A necklace with} an ornament allowed to hang free.

Jenny won this game and chose the spring shades. I thought they were adorable too! I might just have to buy myself a pair as well!! I don’t think she’d mind having matching sunglasses – we’ve had matching Old Navy sunglasses in the past! And Mindy chose the fedora for her door prize. I didn’t make her play a game to win hers.

I spent a few minutes explaining how they too could become a member of the Old Navy Style Council by signing up for Crowdtap.com. I explained that there are no strings attached and that this is my third sampling experience. I have also had the opportunity to participate in discussions and have earned over $150 in amazon.com cash – as well as earning money for the charity I am partnered with ASPCA. 5% or more of what I earn is donated to their organization. It is easy to sign up – you have to have a Facebook account and your account is linked. It only takes minutes to begin.

I also told them they too can become fans of Old Navy by:

+ "Liking" Old Navy on Facebook
+  Following Old Navy on Twitter
            +  Visiting
www.OldNavy.com

Then we had fun completing their outfits with Old Navy accessories either from the party kit or that I had as decorations around the room from out of my closet.

Here are their completed looks:

Miranda - "Farmer's Market" accessorized with her Old Navy
scarf and tote - both included in the party kit!

Jenny - "Concert in the Park" accessorized with an Old Navy:
fedora, bolero sweater & shades!

Melissa - "Lunch with the Girls!" accessorized with an Old Navy:
scarf, and saddle bag purse (both from the party kit).

Mindy - "A Walk on the Beach" accessorized with Old Navy:
flip flops, scarf to complete her Old Navy tee & ankle jeans outfit!
